My journey began in rural Islamabad, where opportunities were scarce, and challenges abundant. As the son of a mechanic, I learned the value of hard work and determination from an early age. But amidst the struggles, I held onto a dream – a dream to rise above circumstances and make a difference in the world. My path was far from easy.

I vividly recall the days of wearing an orange uniform and sitting on the floor in class until the 5th grade. Yet, despite the odds stacked against me, I refused to let my circumstances define my destiny. It was in those humble beginnings that I discovered my passion for education and a thirst for knowledge that knew no bounds. Against all odds, I became the first person in my village to pursue a PhD, blazing a trail of academic excellence that would eventually lead me to the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, Austria. But my journey didn’t stop there. Fuelled by a relentless drive to make an impact, I delved into the realm of scientific research, becoming the editor of esteemed journals like Restoration Ecology and Journal of Applied Entomology. With over 23 research articles published in high-impact journals and accolades including the Best Paper Award and Best Thesis Award, I’ve proven that perseverance and dedication yield tangible results. Receiving Austrian citizenship based on extraordinary achievements in science is a testament to the impact I have made in my field. Being the first Pakistani recipient of this award in science is a testament to my trailblazing spirit and the significance of my contributions to the scientific community. However, my greatest achievements are not measured by accolades alone. They are rooted in the lives I’ve touched, the minds I’ve inspired, and the contributions I’ve made to society. From teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students to supervising master’s theses and leading interdisciplinary projects, I’ve dedicated myself to paving the way for future generations of scholars and researchers. And amidst it all, I’ve remained grounded in my faith and connected to my roots. It is this unwavering belief in Allah and my deep-rooted connection to my homeland that have guided me every step of the way. As you embark on your own journey, remember this – no dream is too big, and no obstacle too insurmountable. With faith as your compass and determination as your driving force, you have the power to achieve anything you set your mind to. So dream boldly, work tirelessly, and never lose sight of the incredible potential that lies within you. Your journey may be filled with twists and turns, but trust in yourself, believe in your abilities, and know that greatness awaits those who dare to chase their dreams. With hope and encouragement, Raja Imran Hussain
